Applications

Cellectis' proprietary genome engineering technologies apply where the biological fate of strains, cell lines or organisms need to be modified.

Genome engineering in industry is mainly used to:

Understand and validate.

Genome engineering is central to the design and production of biological models, including animals, plants or cells that are used to study, screen or validate compounds. Cellectis' intellectual property covers certain uses of homologous recombination, and its technology allows complex chromosome engineering in many organisms.

Improve and produce.

Biological strains are used to produce or transform biotherapeutics, proteins or smaller molecules. Cellectis' technologies apply both to metabolic engineering and producer strain improvement. They can be used to enhance or replace metabolic pathways in micro-organisms. In mammalian cells, Cellectis' technologies allow predictable gene replacement, reproducibility and shorten the development time for producer cell lines.

Modify

Cellectis' technologies are used to modify whole organisms. They have been validated in model plants and are now tested in crop plants for targeted insertions, targeted replacements and marker gene deletion. Meganucleases allow precise modifications and brings an alternative to transgenesis.

Cellectis is also dedicated to implementing its genome engineering technologies to:

Cure diseases.

Cellectis is focusing on bringing "genome surgery" to clinic as a genuine new approach in molecular medicine. Cellectis develops custom-made Meganucleases for precise DNA intervention in potential therapeutic applications. This approach aims at repairing genomic DNA sequences causing diseases such as mutated genes or resident viruses.
